The Leeds/Hull born DJ has always championed new and younger artists. But with Nature, his aim was to start developing careers of new generation talent alongside established tech-house figures. After overseeing a steady stream of standout tech-house numbers as a director of Nature, wAFF takes back the reins for the label's 12th release.
"Leaving You" kicks off with an infectious groove that vigorously permeates the opening 7 minutes. Like many of Nature's releases, the track features a lead vocal that will stick with you long after leaving the dancefloor. Its vibrant sound design is underpinned by a driving bassline and pacy percussion.
wAFF employs a combination of tense and squelchy pads in "Underbite" to accompany a plodding bass. The track unfurls like a spring, gradually expanding into an energetic and engaging track that oozes a saccharine vibe despite its somewhat harsh undertones.
The snappy handclaps and zig-zagging synths that open "Fat Couch" are a constant throughout the EP's final track. It's another playful yet sharp-edged track, building into a menacing, Jaws-like melody before a broken vocal – instantly recognisable – signals the final few bars of wobbling bass, bell-like cymbals, and snares.
