The Prodigy's "Firestarter," released in 1996, marked a turning point in the perception of electronic music in pop culture. The track broke down the boundaries between rave, punk, and rock, bringing the big beat scene, until then subcultural, into the mainstream. Keith Flint's stage presence was particularly influential: his aggressive vocals, anarchic style, and provocative physicality contrasted sharply with the dominant pop imagery of the 90s. "Firestarter" thus became a projection screen for youthful anger, non-conformity, and a general distrust of authority. The track was played not only in clubs but also at rock festivals, in the charts, and on television music programs: a moment of cultural crossover. Even today, "Firestarter" remains a symbol of musical transgression and how electronic music could acquire a rebellious and socially engaged voice. To celebrate the 30th anniversary, XL Recordings is now releasing a special 12" vinyl edition, which includes remixes and the instrumental version of this legendary track. [distributor's fact sheet]
