It's a percussive track influenced by Babatunde Olatunji's 1959 hit \"Jin-Go-Lo-Ba,\" made even more famous by Santana's 1969 cover. Cowley updated the sound for the 80s with electronics and drum machines but kept the playful attitude of the original. Two choruses of voices trade chants, giving Cowley the opportunity to include many of his friends from San Francisco's dance community.\u003cbr\u003eThis has been the year for DJ Hifi Sean, with a successful album with David McAlmont, countless live gigs and high-profile remixes to his name. His take on Cowley's \"Primitive World\" can be counted amongst his best, with an intense TB-303 acid house vibe fitting perfectly with Cowley's electronic bleeps and bloops. The effect is a disorienting mix of 70s psychedelic groove, 80s synth pop and sticky 90s house vibes. \"Primitive World\" is one of the more brilliant pieces on Cowley's last album, Mind Warp, his so-called 'death album' which he wrote as his health was rapidly deteriorating.
