A legend of the Chicago house scene, a teenage friend of Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles before forming influential house trio Risque III, and still prolific today thanks to releases on Marcel Dettman's "BadManners" label, K'Alexi Shelby collaborates with Tony Loveless for their Planet E debut, "Ancestral Rhythm."
Through a nine-minute odyssey of old-school yet forward-thinking sonics, "Ancestral Rhythm" sees the pair tap into their most uncompromising rhythmic instincts, fusing their robust studio machines with organic percussion and oscillating dips into raw, crescendoing electronics.
In a complementary fashion, Carl Craig expands on the existing material for a subtle and precise C2 version of the pair's original material. Road-tested over the summer season in Ibiza and beyond, Craig masterfully refines the frantic contours of the original, adding another chorus of chants to Shelby and Loveless' psychedelic soup.
