Long since out of catalogue and with copies regularly changing hands for upwards of £100 on the second-hand market, Air Miles is proud to present a limited repress of their inaugural outing, Jeigo’s ‘An Ode To Midnight EP’.
The tone is set from the off with the release’s eponymous first track, ‘An Ode to Midnight’. The track’s soft breakbeat vibe is met with warm driving pads, floating between the textures of the night before.
Floor focussed, with no frills, ‘Wing Systems’ takes the A-side onto an orbital trajectory. No time for an introduction, the drums rattle you into alertness, the oscillating bass perfectly counterpointed by enveloping, filtered keys.
‘Lime Hawk’, a melancholic euphoria brings the release back to consciousness. Its structure playfully grows and develops, as the Balearic synth peaks with the sub-line keeping you rooted to the ground.
Closing the record out is ‘By My Side’ drags the record into slightly darker territories. Shifting tonalities enshroud, bewitching siren-like vocals cut through and the thumping kick drum breaks through, anchoring the track to a cerebral, and deeply emotional work. [distributor info sheet]
