Frank and Tony’s long history together has yielded many seminal moments, and the release of their album Ethos this year on their label Scissor & Thread marked another high point.
The album saw the long-time friends and collaborators produce a body of work that was at once joyous, thoughtful, and politically charged. Added to that now is this five-track remix EP that enlists artists of a distinct pedigree to reinterpret some of the tracks, to startling effect. First up is Cecile featuring Eliana Glass, the piano player and vocalist who graces a couple of tracks on the album and on this EP. Charles Webster is responsible for the rework, a characteristically melancholic and atmospheric vibe bringing out new layers in the original. Eliana Glass is also featured on Timmy Regisford’s remix of Olympia, showcasing some of the New York legends best attributes, a hypnotic and uplifting masterclass ensues. Regisford’s instrumental version of Olympia is also shared here. Elsewhere, C.K. brings the heat with a rework of “By The End They Will”, creating a raw and gritty track. The same track is flipped by Octo Octa, who takes the vibe deep and produces an idiosyncratic rave version of it, whilst still honouring the spirit of the original. [distribution one sheet]
