1-track EP, 2024 Remaster, 30th Anniversary Limited Edition on Clear Vinyl
This is another pivotal chapter in Get Physical Music’s classic reissue series, now coming on vinyl. It features a track first released in 1994, and already included on DJ Pierre's Wild Pitch: The Story album from 2017. It includes a Ricardo Villalobos Dub version by Emmanuel Satie and a stunning remix by South African Jazzuelle, first released in 2017.
DJ Pierre's name has always been synonymous with house music, especially the acid sound he pioneered in the 80s. Since then, while remaining true to the underground, he has consistently released seminal tracks, innovating with his Wild Pitch style and now with his Afro Acid label. Pierre continues to push boundaries with every new release, while this reissue proves that his early works are still some of the best house music ever. "What is House Muzik" is an almost 10-minute masterpiece, perfectly conceived for raw warehouse spaces and completed by a hymnal vocal monologue. It's dark and distorted, with monstrous kicks and oversized hi-hats, a weary solo synth line and a pounding groove lit up by strobe details that invite you to raise your hands. The original is also accompanied by an a cappella version.
This is followed by an edit by the master of melody Emmanuel Satie, who takes the epic 36-minute version of "What Is Dub" by fellow Ricardo Villalobos and blends it into a 7 and a half minute edit, perfect for the dance floor and with the perfect rhythm. Originally released in 2015, it now comes for the first time on vinyl. Finally, South African electronic production Don Jazzuelle releases a remix that lives up to his name, with a dive into the deeper realms of acid [distribution factsheet]
