It is with extreme pleasure that we at Basement Boys Records proudly announce our 100th single and 30th year of being in the music business as a record label!
Helping us celebrate our 100th single is the legendary and multifaceted songwriter and producer Byron Stingily. As the third member of the world-renowned Chicago-bred trio Ten City, and as the main lead vocalist, Byron's velvety falsetto graced seminal House Music anthems such as "Devotion," "That's the Way Love Is," "My Piece of Heaven" and dozens of other House Music classics. As a solo artist, Byron would then go on to create memorable House gems such as "Get Up" and "It's Over," a classic collaboration with the Basement Boys for his project on Nervous Records.
"We Belong Together" contains four mixes. The Monday Night Vocal Dub and instrumental are up first, with rhythmic congas and swaying violins accentuating the well-timed drums and percussions of this delicious mix. Brass horns sing in tandem with Byron, who tugs at the heartstrings with his romantic chromatic adlibs and signature riffs. Sugar-laden strings and glistening pianos are reminiscent of Marshall Jefferson's 90s Ten City production.
DJ/songwriter/musician/producer, Maurice Fulton is one of house music's true originals, right where it started. Maurice released his first album on Basement Boys Records with Sticky People, "Kong." A man with mind-boggling complexity behind everything that is deep, dark, and funky.
The Fulton mix takes a more soulful tech approach, employing a myriad of electro sounds. A fervent polyrhythmic swirl of cowbell percussion effects, coupled with classic snares, tom-toms and hi-hats, deep basses and a full-bodied kick drum define this masterful alignment of electronic and acoustic elements. Midway, Maurice transforms the suspenseful rich symphonic intro of the previous mixes into this festival of electro breakdown groove that will surely send dancers into a frenzy, complemented by Byron's heartfelt lyric.
Closing out the Main Mix in all its glory, powerful, dense bass and percussive elements, sweet R&B "boogie" style chords, well-placed brass accents, with Byron delivering the lyric as always in his exquisite, deep, and pleading falsetto recounting the object of his affection, "We Belong Together."
