Teddy Douglas presents Monday Night Studio Sessions Live @ Rockwell, a unique recording of a legendary event that's all about the best artists in house music.
Monday Night Studio Sessions @ Rockwell is the brainchild of inimitable house impresario Teddy Douglas and his partner DJ Tanz. The night started in 2017 and has showcased real artistic talent in a perfect setting ever since, with legends such as Byron Stingly, Lalah Hathaway, Jasper St Company and Josh Milan, to name a few. This particular session was held live on Monday, then recorded in Teddy's studio the next night with Davon McCoy on percussion, Charles Dockins on keyboards and maestro DJ Tanz and Teddy Douglas leading the show.
Highlights from this essential collection include the remix of "I'm Blessed" by Richard Burton, with its driving gospel handclaps and magical live piano by Charles Dockins. "Spanish Joint" is a full-bodied dancefloor party record that builds and develops with the hypnotic and mesmerising Spanish guitar played by Skip and the Whole Nine Yards. It is the Monday night theme song and is played twice a night.
“You Can Do It” by Barbara Tucker, Zhana and Teddy Douglas was the first single from the LP last year and embodies the musical house grooves you can expect from one of these sessions. "Nobody's Fool" by Rochelle Fleming and "Get Lifted" by Andrea Holdclaw were two very successful singles before the pandemic, and "We Belong Together" by house vocalist, Mr. Bryon Stingily, and Teddy Douglas is the label's 100th release, and has a catchy chorus that adds to the legacy of Byron Stingly's classics.
"Rise (instrumental)" by Teddy Douglas is a crowd favorite, with powerful, strident organs groaning and moaning with intensity throughout the track. "Gotta Get Away" is DJ Tanz's first production and a true masterpiece, with an 80s tech design that makes the dance floor vibrate. Add in Navasha Daya's live, impromptu events as she lets loose on the crowd on "Supernova Spinning" and the jam session of percussionist Davon McCoy and saxophonist Brandon Moultrie: you'll have a magical session captured in all its glory.
This sublime collection is a real labor of love featuring talented artists at the peak of their careers. [distribution factsheet]
