In 2022, Rebirth Records’ Daniele “Shield” Contrini pitched “Paraíso” to the great Alfredo himself—a compilation in honour of Alfredo’s legacy. After Alfredo’s passing, in December 2024, the project was definitive; with artists rallying to honour his vision and memory.
Before it became a global tourist magnet, Ibiza embodied freedom: a place where sunrises blended with sunsets and music became a way of life. In the 50s and 60s, the island drew artists, hippies, and outsiders seeking escape and creative liberation.
In 1976, Alfredo Fiorito, fleeing political repression in Argentina, arrived in Ibiza and stayed. A former music journalist, he soon started DJing at Amnesia—a farmhouse turned club where time bent and boundaries dissolved. With eclectic and unconventional sets, Alfredo blended reggae, flamenco, soul, rock, and early house, crafting a hypnotic energy that captivated a generation.
British DJs like Trevor Fung, Paul Oakenfold, and Danny Rampling brought this “Balearic Beat” home. But Balearic wasn't a style—it was a mindset. As DJ Leo Mas said, it was “a state of mind,” where rhythm, spirit, and psychedelia merged.
Other clubs like KU, Es Paradis, Pacha, and Lola's amplified the movement. Visual artists like Yves Uro gave it stunning identity, and DJs like César de Melero, DJ Pippi, and Jon Sa Trinxa ushered the sound into a new era. José Padilla's sunset sessions at Café del Mar brought chill-out music to life as a breath, not just a beat.
But the 90s brought changes. Laws mandating club coverings altered the open-air magic. Commercialisation followed; freedom became a luxury, and many pioneers left.
Yet, the Balearic spirit still lives, raw and untamed. It pulsates in hidden parties, intimate venues like Pikes and Hostal La Torre, and sacred spots like Benirrás and Las Dalias.
With 16 tracks of classic and authentic Balearic sounds; as well as House and proto-House tracks championed by Mr Fiorito, the album also includes an unreleased track by Alfredo and stands as a homage to the man, the music, and the timeless spirit of the true Ibiza. [distribution info sheet]
