Backing up can mean a whole heap of things.
According to the Urban Dictionary, it means to keep drinking the day after despite a heavy session the night before. According to Apple, it means taking your iPhone and plugging it into an iPad or an Apple Mac, copying the information to the cloud. Or to the device. But in music... what we mean is basically this... "Golly... that was a massive hit... how the hell are they going to emulate that success on the next one?"
And it's hard for so many reasons. Was it luck? Timing? That one in a million sample? With all this pressure, soon the artist can begin to doubt themselves... and that's when backing up becomes a real problem.
But not for our boy PURPLE DISCO MACHINE. If BODY FUNK, his last release on CLUB SWEAT, wasn't one of the hottest records of the last year, from Ibiza to Miami and back... played by every single DJ under the sun, from the BLACK MADONNA to JAMIE JONES to your mama... then I'm not sitting at my laptop typing this story... and I'm very sure I am.
