Josh Wink’s “Higher State of Consciousness” gets a respectful 25-year-later retouch courtesy of Adana Twins.
The German duo arrive with a pair of remixes, suitable for two very different dancefloor scenarios. The first is a sleek and minimal breakbeat version that journeys from a sparse percussive soundscape into the famous acidic warbles, before introducing undulating retro trance synths into the composition for a mind-bending finale. Remix Two is a driving, rave-focussed, four-to-the-floor stomper, developing the 303s with exhilarating intensity, only loosening up in the track’s final moments.
The new interpretation follows Adana Twins’ super rework of Patrice Baumel’s “Roar”, released last Watergate.
