Dutch duo Dam Swindle appear on Aus Music’s 200 series, and two new original house tracks are backed by remixes from K-Lone and Chloe Robinson & DJ ADHD.
Dam Swindle have been helping to define the underground house sound for a decade, not least through their Heist imprint. The pair deal in timeless sounds with no passing fads, plenty of dancefloor dynamics and allude to a love of everything from disco to tech and much more. They are known crate diggers and have played the world’s hippest clubs. Their recent track Allright (Just A Tribute), released for Phonica’s 20-year celebration, received massive DJ support this summer on the festival circuit, and now they offer two more of their studio gems for their third full outing on Aus.
This EP is the second in a four-part series of various artist releases to celebrate the 200th outing on Will Saul’s influential Aus Music imprint. It is a landmark label that has broken some of the scene’s brightest stars long before they emerged. Since launching in 2006, the label has been dedicated to putting out club music with a cultured edge, from melodic deep house to early post-dubstep bass-driven fusions.
This EP opens with ‘The Last Time’, an ecstatic deep house sound with impassioned vocals that tug at the heartstrings. Mellifluous synth brushstrokes permeate the mix to captivating and pleasurable effect. Next up is ‘Come Back’, an infectious house gurgle with syrupy synths and a sort of garage shuffle in the drums. It’s fresh and full of neon colours that overflows with soul.
New house and garage trendsetter and core Aus Music family member K-LONE steps up with a remix fresh from his own two-part EP series for the label. His version of ‘The Last Time’ is typically artful, with soft focus chords weaving over punchy garage house rhythms. The distant vocal, cavernous bass and melancholic mood make this another classic.
Last but not least, Chloe´ Robinson and DJ ADHD often collaborate on labels such as Fabric Originals and Chloe’s own Pretty Weird label, where they deal in powerful, bass-heavy sounds. Their version of ‘Come Back’ is expertly stripped back to the bare essentials. It teases and delights with a mix of dirty low-end undulations, slinky drums and trumpeting chords that are effortlessly fun and effective. [distribution info sheet]
